Election Results:

There were 2,530 total votes cast in the 2026 election.

Board of Directors:

John Vogel (1,536 votes, 38.22%), Kara Kerker (1,267 votes, 31.53%) and John Hitt (1,094 votes, 27.22%) were elected to the SROA Board of Directors.

Capital Transfer Fee Ballot Measure:

Voters rejected the Capital Transfer Fee Ballot Measure with 632 yes votes, 1,885 no votes and 13 blank votes.

Three candidates are running for three open seats on the Sunriver Owners Association Board of Directors.

The slate of the candidates was presented by the Nominating Committee to the SROA Board of Directors during the April 17 board work session.

Listed alphabetically, the candidates are:

• John Hitt: I have been an owner since late 2013. My wife and four children always enjoyed Sunriver and what it offered. While all of my children are grown, they often return to enjoy SHARC and skiing. My wife and I find ourselves spending more time in Sunriver since my retirement. Prior to retiring, I spent 18+ years working as a city manager/administrator for three different cities in Oregon. As such, I have substantial experience with budgets, utilities and public safety. I believe this would serve me well as a SROA Board member.
• Kara Kerker: I offer 35+ years of executive leadership experience to the SROA Board. My career spans strategic planning, organizational development, and operational management, including senior roles at Hewlett-Packard, Lytx and MarketFrames, a boutique consultancy serving global enterprise clients. I am skilled at building high-performing teams, managing complex budgets and driving structured decision-making. A Sunriver owner for 25 years, my family and I love the outdoor lifestyle that makes this community special – skiing, bicycling and kayaking – rounded out by cooking and a legendary annual production of thousands of Christmas cookies with my nieces. I hold an MBA and B.S. from Cornell University.
• John Vogel: My wife, Kathy, and I purchased our Sunriver home in January 2018 and moved here permanently in the fall after our youngest left for college. I worked remotely for three years before retiring. I graduated from Lewis & Clark College with a business administration degree and earned a master’s in information systems from Dartmouth College. I started in information systems and later transitioned to fixed income portfolio management during my career in banking. In Sunriver, I have enjoyed volunteering with the old Community Potlucks and now with Sunriver You. I’ve served on the SROA Finance Committee for over a year. Kathy and I love traveling, hiking, skiing and floating the river.

Ballot Measure

This year's election includes a ballot measure for a proposed Capital Transfer Fee during home sales to fund future amenities in Sunriver. READ MORE about the CTF.

Ballots were emailed to owners in early July (from Election Trust, our third-party vendor) and must be received no later than 12pm August 8 to be valid. 

How to apply for the SROA BOARD of DIRECTORS in 2027

Sunriver is a wonderful place to live or visit. A principal reason Sunriver has been able to maintain its level of excellence is the commitment and involvement of property owners in its local governance. The many perspectives brought to the local governing board by its members are integral to keeping the community a great place.

Running and serving on the SROA board is a great way to lend your skills and abilities to maintain and improve our community. There are three positions that open each year and elected in August for a three year term. 

All Sunriver property owners, both resident and non-resident, are eligible to serve on the SROA Board of Directors. Prospective candidates must be in good standing with the association (no past due maintenance fees, citations, etc.).

Contact a Nominating Committee member or email nominating@srowners.org to express your interest and/or find out more about the duties and the steps to becoming a candidate. Keep an eye out for Nominating Committee members "in the wild" at various events. They will have a name badge identifying themselves. Feel free to ask them questions!

There are two ways to get your name on the ballot:

1. APPLY: Applications are available from the SROA office (57455 Abbot Drive) or from this website. The deadline to submit an application is the third Friday in March by 5pm. The Nominating Committee will review your submitted material and set up time for an interview.

2. CANDIDATE BY PETITION: SROA Bylaws also allow the option of a "Candidacy by Petition" rather than submitting an application through the SROA Nominating Committee. 100 property owner signatures are required on the petition for candidacy (one signature per property allowed). The deadline for Candidacy by Petition submission is April 1 at 5pm.

Candidacy Filing Dates

• January: Applications available. Download an application or pick up a copy in the SROA foyer (open 24/7).
• Third Friday of March by 5pm: SROA Board applications must be submitted to the Nominating Committee at the SROA office.
• April 1 by 5pm: SROA Board Candidacy by Petition must be submitted to the SROA office.
• April SROA Board of Directors Meeting: The slate of candidates is announced.
