FTTH Internet

In 2023, owners voted and approved a measure for TDS to provide fiber-to-the-home (FTTH) internet to every developed property in Sunriver at a locked rate of $35/month for the first 10 years, then increasing to $48 for the remaining five years under the current contract between SROA & TDS.

The fiber infrastructure is currently being installed throughout Sunriver and will be available to all homes by December 31, 2026.

As of October 2025 there are more than 1,400 completed drops to Sunriver homes and just over 1,000 are activated. DO NOT contact TDS about the fiber service until you receive a letter or an email to do so.

Below are some frequently asked questions regarding the Sunriver fiber internet project.

Quick Glance Answers

TDS continues to work installing fiber-to-the-home internet service in Sunriver.

Owners will receive correspondence directly from TDS (either by email or mail) once they are ready to hook the service up to your home. There is no need to contact TDS or SROA unless prompted to do so.

In the meantime, here are some details on the process.

  • Fiber mainline installation has been underway since summer 2023.
  • TDS has until December 31, 2026 to complete the project.
  • As mainlines are constructed and available on a lane, TDS will begin constructing “drops” to each property between the mainline to the home.
  • TDS will construct approximately 100 drops at a time as staffing and weather conditions allow.
  • If property owners do not want the drop constructed on their property, they must “opt out”* directly to TDS at HelloTDS.com/Sunriver.
  • If owners do not contact TDS to “opt out” for a drop installed on their property, it will be constructed within the timeline established by TDS.
  • Once a drop is constructed to the home and fiber service is available, TDS will email or mail a notification to the owner to have the service "activated" within the home
  • Activation includes scheduling a day/time for TDS technicians to enter the home, install the necessary equipment and activate the service. The timeline for the activation work is at the discretion of the owner.
  • Until activation of the fiber service is requested and completed, any existing coaxial internet service to the home will be maintained by TDS to avoid disruption in existing service. Upon activation of the fiber service, TDS will then disconnect the coaxial service.
  • Upon fiber activation, TDS will notify the Sunriver Owners Association (SROA) within 30-days. SROA will then begin billing that property owner the $35 monthly fiber internet fee (will be prorated based on activation date).
  • Upon activation and billing by SROA, the payment by the owner to TDS for any equivalent internet service will be removed from their TDS bill (to avoid overlap between fees paid to SROA and TDS for internet service).
  • Other services (over and above or in addition to the basic internet service provided by TDS under the SROA agreement) are at the discretion of the owner and will continue to be billed directly to the owner by TDS. SROA has no participation in other services or charges from TDS such as TV, phone.
  • As is the current protocol, after installation of the fiber, any service issues must be reported directly to TDS and not SROA.

*TDS will decommission the existing coax internet network once the fiber build is complete at end of year 2026. Notices will be sent to any remaining coax internet customers (particularly those who originally opted out). Those customers will need to convert to TDS fiber internet or another service provider at end of 2026. Regardless of whether an owner utilizes the TDS fiber service, ALL developed Sunriver properties pay the $35 monthly fiber fee.

If you see TDS on your lane it does not mean they are ready to hookup/activate service to your home.

You will receive correspondence (by email or mail) from TDS when they are ready. Do not contact TDS unless you have been notified to do so.

When can I expect the FTTH service to start?

TDS has to first install the FTTH infrastructure – which is currently underway. TDS has a completion date of no later than December 31, 2026 to get to every home.

TDS does not have a timeline between the drop and actual home hookup process. TDS will contact owners via a letter or email once the fiber has been installed on your lane to arrange for turning on your internet service at the home.

PLEASE DO NOT contact TDS unless you have received correspondence to do so from TDS.

How will I pay the $35/month internet fee?

Once fiber service is available and hooked up at your home – TDS will notify SROA to begin billing you.

Although SROA may initially send a prorated invoice based on your service start date, the $35/month will eventually be included with your monthly or annual maintenance fee billing cycle. As a special purpose assessment, the $35/month will not be eligible for the 3% discount if you opt to pay your SROA maintenance fee on an annual basis.

All other TDS services (phone, TV, etc.) will continue to be billed by TDS at their current rates.

PLEASE NOTE: ALL owners (with a developed lot) will pay the $35 monthly fee – whether you choose to use the fiber service or not starting January 2027. The current coaxial internet service will also go away and no longer available in Sunriver.

Can I OPT-OUT from getting fiber?

You can choose to "opt-out" of placing a fiber line to your home. To opt out you must notify TDS here: HelloTDS.com/Sunriver

BUT, please be aware... If you choose to opt-out of receiving the fiber Internet service, and you currently have TDS coax internet, that service will be decommissioned following end of year 2026 as coaxial internet will no longer be provided by TDS.

You also will be subject to the $35/monthly service charge starting January 2027 – whether you use the TDS fiber internet service or not.

I currently have TDS internet, can I get the new rate now?

No, the new rate is only applicable to the fiber-to-the-home service – once it is installed/hooked up at your home.

TDS will notify SROA when this step is complete. This is when you will start to be billed for the fiber service by SROA.

All other TDS provided services – phone, TV, etc. – will continue to be billed to you through TDS.

Will I need a new router?

Yes, this will be provided free by TDS once fiber is available at your home.

Will I need any other special equipment?

Once the infrastructure is in place, TDS will need to install a fiber terminal box outside or inside your home (this can be in the garage, etc.) and set up your router. Both will be provided free by TDS.

The property owner (or a representative) will need to be present when these steps happen. TDS will reach out to set up an appointment for the home install once the fiber is in place and ready to turn on.

Do not contact TDS at this time – they will contact you – either by email or a mailed notification.

Old Equipment Return Instructions

Has your home been activated with the new fiber internet service but you still have old TDS-issued internet equipment and don’t know what to do with it? These items do need to be returned to TDS to avoid any charges. Click below to read return instructions.

What if I require faster service than the 300mbps?

Good news! TDS has already agreed to increase the basic fiber internet from 300mbps to 1 gigabyte at no additional cost! You will also have unlimited upload/download capability (at 1g).

What if I have problems with my internet service?

First, contact TDS support at 1-855-696-8368. Per the bulk services agreement, SROA can step in on behalf of an owner in the event of “chronic” issues. Luckily, fiber internet provides 99.9% service reliability.

What happens at the end of the 15 year agreement?

We don’t have a crystal ball of how things may look in 15 years.

Options could be a review and extension of the current agreement, negotiations of a new agreement or something completely different.

What if I have TV and/or phone service with TDS?

You will continue to be billed for those options by TDS, not SROA.

What if I have a problem with my TV and/or phone service?

Contact TDS support at 1-855-696-8368. SROA does not have any oversight of these services.
