Sunriver is home to a variety of wildlife including coyote, deer, elk, otter, turkeys, porcupine, rabbits, skunks and other rodents, raccoon, raptors, bats, bobcat, black bear and mountain lion.
While many of these animals make Sunriver their home year-round, others just pass through without us ever knowing they were here.
To help avoid human/wildlife conflicts, owners and visitors are asked to feed
pets indoors, make sure garbage is securely contained and not
intentionally feed the wildlife. Animals who become dependent on finding
easy food sources around homes can become aggressive or a nuisance, and can pay
the price with their life.
It is important that owners and visitors accept the responsibility to minimize adverse impacts on wildlife. Sunriver's Rules and Regulation include provisions to assure the long-term protection of this resource:
• The feeding of native or feral wildlife (except birds) within Sunriver is prohibited. • The placement of salt blocks (except in designated pastures) within Sunriver is prohibited. • The intentional harassment (teasing, stalking, chasing) or physical harm of wildlife within Sunriver is prohibited except as permitted by written approval of SROA for animal control purposes. • The live trapping and relocation of nuisance animals is authorized with a permit from the Oregon Department of Fish and Wildlife (ODFW) available at the Sunriver Nature Center.
If you have questions about the wildlife that lives in and around Sunriver, contact the Sunriver Nature Center at (541) 593.4394.
