Together, we can protect the "natural"
beauty of Sunriver
Because non-native noxious weeds are harmful to property values, wildlife habitat and native plant communities, the SROA Environmental Services Department inspects all common and private property on a regular basis.
Sunriver and Deschutes County have passed ordinances requiring property owners to take action to eliminate noxious weeds from their land. Read Sunriver's mandatory Noxious Weed Management Plan.
2012 will mark 12th annual Sunriver Owners Association War on Weeds (WOW). The Sunriver community continues the battle against noxious weeds with the help of volunteers during the annual pull day held the first Friday in August, where more than 100 volunteers pull noxious weeds. Volunteers are treated to a tasty picnic lunch at Mary McCallum Park to celebrate their victory.
Even after the success of WOW Day, the fight is far from over. Noxious weed seeds can stay viable in the soil for up to 10 years. If you see spotted knapweed or bull thistle, please pull the plants and put them in the garbage before they go to seed. If you see Dalmatian toadflax, call SROA for removal options.
