Is Sunriver losing its competitive position? The first planned resort community in Central Oregon, Sunriver long claimed to be the "premier destination resort" in the Pacific Northwest. Does Sunriver still wear that crown? Or, has Sunriver allowed itself to age ungracefully and be supplanted by someplace younger?

Part 2: Black Butte Ranch

Part 4: Caldera Springs & Crosswater
The 1960 census recorded 23,100 people in Deschutes County, including incorporated areas. In 1970, just as Sunriver was getting started, the census counted 30,442 residents.  However, the last census, in 2000, recorded 115,367 and a 2006 estimate was 149,140. Deschutes County, including South County, is losing its "rural" character.

Part 5: Brasada Ranch
Brasada Ranch is one of the newer destination resorts being developed in Central Oregon.  Ground was broken in 2004 and the first 201 homesites were sold in one weekend in 2005. Read entire story here.
