Sunriver is 3,373 acres comprised of two primary ecosystems: the Great Meadow and the forest. Our mission is to strike a balance between human needs and the needs of a healthy, vigorous forest and meadow.
Ladder Fuel Reduction and Wildfire
A major factor impacting forest health is the buildup of combustible materials, referred to as "fuel loading." In a pristine forest, wildfires perform the cleansing task. However, in an urban forest environment such as Sunriver, burning becomes impractical. Manual brush removal, clearing and tree thinning are highly effective when applied uniformly and consistently throughout the community.
The Ladder Fuels Reduction Plan establishes guidelines that apply to all common and private property within Sunriver, and became mandatory for private property owners in 1996. See Section 4.01E.2 of the Sunriver Rules & Regulations.
We help keep the Sunriver environment fire resistant by making sure properties in Sunriver are in compliance with the Ladder Fuels Reduction Plan through management of fuels reduction contractors and inspections of private properties. To read the Ladder Fuels Reduction Plan, click HERE.
Help Keep Sunriver "FireFree"
FireFree activities take place each spring prior to the summer fire season. SROA and the Central Oregon FireFree program encourage all property owners to reduce ladder fuels on their property. The program allows residents to dispose of ladder fuels and yard debris at area locations at no charge during designated clean-up days.
